weather

The change in the weather is due to the tilt of Earth's axis. As the North Pole points closer to the sun, the days become longer and warmer, on the north side of the equator, that is. As we circle about the sun, the North Pole begins to point away from the sun. The rays from the sun begin to hit the northern continents closer to a tangent than more directly. So, it becomes colder, and the days shorter.
Earth doesn't have a circular orbit. Rather, it is elliptical, or oval. And contrary to what many people think, the Earth is actually closer to the sun during the northern hemisphere's winter.
