Many times, people would bring the box back, before opening it, saying the milk was bad, because the date printed on the box said to sell by such-and-such.
I remember I used to want to scream at those people.
Most of the time, the date to sell the milk by was the same day. Sometimes, it was one day past. Rarely more than that.
Yes, I wanted to yell at those idiots.
That is not the date the milk will go bad!
Especially if it's in a sealed container!
Milk remains good even up to several weeks after a carton has been opened! Especially in a properly refrigerated cooler!
They had the nerve to say it was bad without even opening up the box and smelling it.
The sell by date is put on there to move product, that is all. The milk companies can't tell you when the milk will go bad. There are too many variables. Was the container damaged during delivery? Was the cooler too warm? Was the cooler too cold?
The best way to know if milk has gone bad is to smell it.
Gosh, I'm glad I finally got that off my chest after all these years.
